IGGY GLASSMAN
CODER, MAKER, ARTIST, TRAVELER
about me
Hello, my name is Iggy. I am a project-oriented learner. I have a passion for coding, electrical engineering and photography. I love learning experientially and I am at my best when I do deep dives on subjects and projects that spark my curiosity. Some of my recent projects have been creating a 1-bit computer just to see if I could do it, writing my own operating system, and designing video games, which I have been doing since I was 9 years-old. I love to travel and learn about cultures through getting to know the locals. As an avid photographer, I try capture the beauty and feel of the places I visit. I supplement my classes with self learning and share my knowledge by teaching in the CoderDojo community, where I first learned how to code..

experience
Coding and technology are where I found my voice. I started out making games. Now I enjoy working in systems architecture and designing my own computers (and I still make games). These are some the highlights of my journey.

2012
Coder Dojo
First Computer Class
My first exposure to coding was through Coder Dojo, an international organization built around bringing coding to youth in underserved communities. We started by learning in Scratch, a teaching program developed at MIT.
2013-2015
GameBot School
Learned Unity
Took coding classes from a coder and designer who had worked on the Guitar Hero series. Started creating my own video games in Python and in Unity, using the C# programming language.
2014
Ludum Dare
First Hackathon Coding Challenge
They announce a topic on a Friday and you have 48 hours to build a game on your own. I spent most of the weekend hanging out with my teachers, coding away, as we each participated. I ended up with a playable game that my 5th grade teacher then used to teach a unit on marketing.
2015
Commendation
California State Assembly
My elementary school received a commendation from the State Assembly for a program I came up with, where 4th graders (my grade at the time) taught kindergarteners basic coding skills in our public school's barely funded, unstaffed computer lab.
2015
Brit Week
EZ Zen App
For my second coding hackathon I was given the opportunity to lead a team of professional coders to create an app to help fellow kids. I designed one for calming stress. The idea was very personal and grew out of some of the methods I learned to overcome my own struggles with anxiety.
2016-Present
Great Minds School
Principles of Computer Science
Took my coding to the next level by learning about different aspects of computer science such as data structures, system architecture and operating systems. Lots of learning experiences through creating algorithms and implementing them. Deepened my understanding of the C# and C++ languages
2018-Present
Coder Dojo
Instructor
I feel like I came full circle when I was invited to teach classes for the organization that introduced me to coding. Passed along my passion to a new crop of future techies, while holding classes at some really cool places, like Google, Verizon and IdeaLab
